Workers at Tata Steel have started industrial action short of a strike as efforts continue to try to resolve a row over pensions.

Members of four trade unions launched a work-to-rule and overtime ban at sites across the country and are planning a 24-hour strike next Monday.

Talks at the conciliation service Acas have been adjourned but dialogue is continuing. Sources said a new offer had been tabled, but neither side would confirm or give any details.

The unions are protesting over plans to close the final salary pension scheme.

Tata says it has to take action to stem a £2 billion shortfall in the scheme.
