A chemistry teacher who planned to travel to Syria to fight is facing jail after he admitted terrorism charges.

Jamshed Javeed, 30, of Levenshulme in Manchester, pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts at Woolwich Crown Court in south east London.

He intended to go to the country to support rebels opposing president Bashar al Assad but in his basis of plea insists he “has never supported and does not support the aims of Isis as now revealed and understood”.

Bearded Javeed will be sentenced in December.
