Detectives are continuing to question three men on suspicion of terror offences.

The three men, all in their 20s and from Birmingham, are part of a group of six suspects arrested in Dover last Friday morning.

The were detained by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit in the south coast port’s departure zone on suspicion of Syria-related offences.

Officers have until this morning to charge or release them, or apply for a warrant to keep them in custody any longer.

West Midlands Police said two other male suspects have been handed over to Home Office immigration enforcement officers for further investigation, while the sixth suspect – a woman – has been released without charge.

The force has said: “The suspects, who are not a family group and were not accompanied by children, did not pose any immediate risk to public safety.

“The arrests are part of an on-going investigation.”
