UK braced for overnight snow

Parts of the UK could awake to a thin carpet of snow today, with sub-zero temperatures expected for some of the country overnight.

Lows of -5C (23F) are expected in rural areas of central England overnight and into this morning.

Snow already fall last night across the Midlands, with further smatterings predicted, prompting the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning.

Kirk Waite, forecaster with the Met Office, said: “We have a band of light snow over central England at the moment and there will be further snow showers overnight.”

Much of the UK will be dry and clear today, with lows of -2C in the morning.

Temperatures will rise to 5C by lunchtime across much of the UK.
