The Wedgwood Estate in the Potteries is to get a new £34 million visitor experience.

The World of Wedgwood will open in time for Easter 2015 at the estate at Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire.

Visitors will have an interactive hands-on factory tour and a chance to spend time in the Wedgwood Museum at nearby Barlaston whose future has just been secured thanks to funding from arts groups and donations from the public.

The interactive factory tour will introduce visitors to all elements of ceramic production and decoration processes, and will showcase some of the best ceramic craftsmen and women in the industry. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at pot-making.

The Wedgwood Museum houses the Wedgwood Collection, which features 80,000 works of art, ceramics, manuscripts, letters and photographs.

The museum faced being sold off, and needed to raise £15.75 million. The Heritage Lottery Fund, the Art Fund and a number of smaller trusts contributed £13 million, while a public appeal, including donations from businesses, raised the rest of the money.

The World of Wedgwood will also include woodland walks managed jointly with the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust; and a new courtyard, featuring fountains, gardens and outdoor seating will host a variety of annual events, from music and food festivals to family fun activities.
