A couple who met and fell in love at the shopping centre where they both work have tied the knot – at the same mall.

Kate Marr and Mike Davies were married in front of 40 friends and family and hundreds of shoppers at the Telford shopping centre in Shropshire.

The pair, who were close friends for several years before they started dating in 2010, were married in a 20-minute ceremony in Sherwood Square, at the heart of the shopping centre.

Mrs Davies, 40, a customer service adviser, met Mr Davies, 44, after he joined the organisation as a maintenance electrician 10 years ago. The pair, from Madeley, were engaged on New Year’s Eve in 2013.

Mrs Davies said: “When we first got engaged, we joked that the wedding should take place at Telford shopping centre.

“Not only did we meet and fall in love here but, as we’ve both worked in the centre for many years now, we have some very close friends here. One of my three bridesmaids and the best man are both people we met through our jobs at the centre. It’s a cliche, but it’s like one big family.”

Mrs Davies even persuaded some of her friends from the shopping centre to help out with wedding hairstyles for her and her bridesmaids, as well as their make-up.

Chris Jones, the centre’s director, said: “While I don’t think any of the centre management team ever envisaged applying for a licence for civil marriages and civil partnerships to be legally held in Sherwood Square, we are all very excited to be joining a highly exclusive list of unusual places to tie the knot.

“We are all so happy for Kate and Mike and it’s been an absolute privilege for the team at Telford shopping centre to be so closely involved in their big day.”
