Woman freed by murder probe police

A woman arrested under the terrorism act by detectives investigating the murder of a Syrian-born preacher has been released, police said.

Abdul Hadi Arwani, 48, an outspoken critic of the Assad regime in Syria, was shot dead earlier this month.

His body was found in his parked car in Wembley, north London, on April 7.

The Metropolitan Police said a woman, 53, arrested in Brent, north London, last week on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism has been released from custody.

Detectives probing the death of the father-of-six have made a string of arrests.

Leslie Cooper, 36, has appeared in court charged with Mr Arwani’s murder.

A 61-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism remains in custody.

While a 36-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder has been bailed on until early May.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command are investigating the death.
