Young voters will get the chance to question national party leaders in a series of live shows streamed on the internet.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Labour leader Ed Miliband, Ukip leader Nigel Farage and Green leader Natalie Bennett will face questions from their on-line audiences in the Leaders Live events.

Discussions over Prime Minister David Cameron taking part are understood to be on-going.

Each leader has chosen three of the topics that will be covered but will also face a “wildcard” section in the question and answer session.

The shows will be filmed in front of a studio audience that includes singer-songwriter Eliza Doolittle and YouTube stars.

Doolittle said: “Getting very excited about Leaders Live. It’s gonna be great to have the leaders available to answer our questions online in a way the UK hasn’t really done before.”

Mr Miliband said: “Leaders Live will give young people a chance to ask political leaders direct questions and get straight answers. I’m really looking forward to being involved.”

Mr Clegg said: “This project will take the leaders of the main political parties to where young people are already active – through exciting new ways of communicating.”

Mr Farage said: “Taking part in Leaders Live is a fantastic opportunity to deliver Ukip’s message straight to the new generation of voters, and perhaps more importantly hear their concerns and take their questions directly.”

Ms Bennett said: “It is great to have this chance to reach a wide range of voters who mightn’t usually engage with traditional politics in newspapers or broadcast media, particularly younger voters.”

The events have been organised by not-for-profit organisation Bite the Ballot with ITV News with support from Twitter and YouTube.

Each show will be streamed on YouTube.com/BITENews, LeadersLive.co.uk and itv.com/news.
