I know, it’s a headline we never thought we would write, but a New Zealand dog trainer has finally managed to train a dog to drive a full-sized car.

Meet Porter, the World’s first driving dog. Porter and his trainer are at the centre of a publicity drive to highlight the plight of abandoned dogs in the country and encourage more people to take them in.

SPCA in Aukland say that their mission is to protect dogs and make sure people treat them with the love and respect they deserve.

As spokesperson said “We thought that if we showed people how intelligent dogs really are it will encourage them to treat them more humanely and even consider adopting one.

“We began in a specially designed simulator and linked all the key moves that Porter would make to commands and rewards, before moving up to a real car”

As Google get ready to release a driverless car it could be they have missed a trick and in fact the answer is more doggy than they think?
