At least 30 people have been killed in a massive car bombing in eastern Libya, according to initial reports.

Army spokesman Mohammed Hegazi said a car bomb exploded next to a fuel station in the eastern town of Qubba, where motorists had queued to fill their tanks.

Mr Hegazi said many people were also injured in the blast, which occurred near the town’s security headquarters.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, But Mr Hegazi said it bore the hallmarks of Islamic militants who have battled the army for months in and around the eastern city of Benghazi.
