Spanish police have arrested four people suspected of working to recruit jihadi militants and spread propaganda for the Islamic State group.

An Interior Ministry statement said two people were arrested in the Spanish north African enclave of Melilla and two others in the north-eastern region of Catalonia.

No details were available on the identities of the four.

The statement said the two detainees in Melilla used internet platforms to disseminate information specially edited in Spanish about the Islamic State group. It said they also worked to recruit activists, especially women, to join the group abroad.

Spain has arrested dozens of suspected jihadi militants and recruiters in recent years, especially around Melilla and Spain’s other north enclave of Ceuta. Both cities have borders with Morocco.
