Police were called to a fight reported at the home of singer Whitney Houston’s daughter, a week before she was found face-down in the bath, it has emerged.

In an emergency call made on January 23, which has been released, a man who identified himself as a security guard at the gated community in Atlanta, Georgia, told a dispatcher that a neighbour of Bobbi Kristina Brown reported the domestic incident.

The guard said the neighbour reported people “hitting each other and swinging” outside the townhouse, but the guard did not give descriptions of how many people were fighting or who they were.

Ms Brown, 21, is the only child of the late Houston and singer Bobby Brown. Ms Brown was found in a bath on January 31 and has been fighting for her life in hospital in Atlanta since. Police have revealed few details about the circumstances of the case, citing an ongoing investigation.

Three years ago, on February 11 2012, Houston, 48, was found face-down and unresponsive in about a foot of water in a bath in the Beverly Hilton hotel just before the Grammy awards show. She later died and authorities concluded that she had accidentally drowned. Investigators found a dozen prescription drug bottles in the suite and listed heart disease and cocaine use as contributors to her death.

The investigation and limited details being provided in Ms Brown’s case have fuelled speculation about her condition and the circumstances that led to her being admitted to hospital.

Christopher Brown, Bobby Brown’s Boston-based lawyer, released a statement railing against several media outlets for publishing “false reports” about Ms Brown’s condition and the family’s plans for her.

“This is a criminal investigation and the integrity of that process requires silence,” he said.

Local news outlets have reported, without firm attribution, that the investigation is a criminal one.
