At least 50 people have been killed in two suicide bombings in Yemen.

Thirty people died when a suicide bomber set off his explosives in central Sanaa at a gathering of supporters of the rebel Shia Houthis who recently overran the capital city, security and hospital officials said.

The second bombing took place on the outskirts of the southern city of Mukalla, where a suicide car bomber rammed his car against a security outpost, killing at least 20 soldiers.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for either attack, which bore the hallmarks of al Qaida.
