Dozens of people have been held as part of an investigation into alleged cheating in a national exam for prospective civil servants in Turkey.

More than 60 suspects were detained in Ankara and 13 other cities, according to reports, with police having issued arrest warrants for a total of 82 people over the 2010 examinations.

The investigation stems from allegations of cheating in the Public Personnel Selection Examination in which a surprisingly large number of candidates scored top marks.

The Turkish government has suggested that a movement led by a US-based Muslim cleric may have carried out fraud in a bid to place followers into key public sector positions.

Media organisations close to the movement have denied the allegations.
