A confirmed case of Ebola has been reported by health authorities in Liberia.

A 10-year-old boy is being attended to at a treatment centre on the outskirts of the capital Monrovia, the officials said.

Liberia was first declared Ebola-free on May 9 but there was a resurgence of the disease in late June affecting four people, two of whom died.

The country was again declared Ebola-free on September 3 by the World Health Organisation.

Chief medical officer and acting head of the Ebola case management system, Dr Francis Kateh, said the boy, a resident of the eastern Paynesville district of Monrovia, was taken to the Ebola treatment unit late on Thursday.

“Yes, yes, you can say confirmed,” he said, when asked if the case has been confirmed to be Ebola.
