China’s former security chief Zhou Yongkang has been sentenced to life in prison on corruption charges following a closed-door trial.

Zhou, a former member of the ruling Communist Party’s all-powerful Politburo Standing Committee, is the biggest target to fall in President Xi Jinping’s ongoing anti-corruption campaign.

The First Intermediate People’s Court of Tianjin said Zhou was convicted of receiving bribes, abusing his power and leaking state secrets.

The sentence also mandates the seizure of all of Zhou’s personal assets.

It said Zhou accepted the court’s decision and will not file an appeal.
