Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto says he thinks comments by Donald Trump have hurt US-Mexico relations.

Mr Trump, who is aiming to be the Republican presidential candidate, has pledged to build a wall along the two countries’ borders. He has also said Mexican immigrants bring crime and drugs to the US and are “rapists”.

Mr Pena Nieto said in an interview with the newspaper El Universal that he condemns Mr Trump’s comments.

He said: “It appears to me that (Trump’s comments) hurt the relationship we have sought with the United States.”

But the Mexican president says his country will try to work with whoever is elected president of the United States.

Mr Pena Nieto has avoided direct comments on Mr Trump until now, and said he would be “absolutely respectful” of the US political process.
