Police at Italy’s Mediterranean border with France have forcibly removed some of the African migrants who have been camping out for days in the hope of continuing their journeys farther north.

The group held on to signposts and tried to resist being loaded on to buses brought in to clear them from the Ventimiglia border crossing. Other migrants on the rocks jutting out in the sea were left alone.

The migrants, mostly from Sudan and Eritrea, have been camped out for five days after French border police refused to let them cross.

The French Interior Ministry said it tightened border controls due to the influx of migrants.
