Mourners, led by Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke, are gathering in a small New South Wales town for the funeral tomorrow of Phillip Hughes.

Macksville, the Test batsman’s birthplace, has become the epicentre of the nation’s grief since the 25-year-old died in a Sydney hospital after being struck on the head by a cricket ball.

Clarke will act as a pallbearer at the funeral, which will be attended by past and present cricketers from throughout the world, by politicians and other dignitaries, and which will be televised live throughout Australia.

Hughes’s former Australian Test team-mates will be present to pay their last respects and to further express the grief that has wracked the team since his death last Thursday.
