A man has been arrested in Mozambique suspected of poisoning traditional beer that killed more than 70 people last month.

Police said Graciano Antonio was arrested after he fled the north east Tete province.

Nearly 200 people ended up in hospital after drinking traditional beer at a funeral in the region.

Pombe, a traditional Mozambican beer, is made from millet or corn flour and brewed for about two days.

Health authorities said they believed the beer was poisoned with crocodile bile, a body fluid produced in the liver, but experts have cast doubt on whether bile is poisonous. The poisoned beer is still being tested.

Antonio is yet to be charged.
