Zimbabwean leader and African Union chairman Robert Mugabe has harshly criticised the International Criminal Court after Sudan’s president dodged an international arrest order by leaving a meeting of the continent’s leaders in South Africa.

The African News Agency quoted Mr Mugabe as saying at the close of an African Union summit that the International Criminal Court is not wanted in Africa.

Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir arrived back in Khartoum, Sudan, last night after a South African court had instructed that he should be arrested.

Mr al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes allegations linked to the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region.
