Two Palestinians have charged at a West Bank checkpoint with knives in their hands, drawing Israeli fire that killed one and wounded the second, according to police.

Spokeswoman Luba Samri said one Israeli officer was slightly hurt in the incident.

Ms Samri added that the two Palestinians had ridden to the checkpoint on a motorcycle, dismounted and then charged an officer from the paramilitary border police. She said another officer opened fire on the pair.

It was the latest bloodshed in six weeks of violence, including Palestinian attacks on Israelis and clashes between Palestinian stone-throwers and Israeli troops.

In all, 11 Israelis and 64 Palestinians have been killed, with 39 of the Palestinians said by Israel to have been involved in attacks or attempted attacks.
