Service held for Alps crash victims

Relatives of people killed in the Germanwings plane crash have gathered in Cologne for a memorial service.

Hundreds of dignitaries, including German c hancellor Angela Merkel, were also attending the service.

Archbishop of Cologne Rainer Maria Woelki said 150 candles will be lit in memory of each of those who died including co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, who investigators believe deliberately crashed the plane.

He told Bild newspaper “it’s not for us to judge”.

Some 1,400 guests were expected for the memorial service, and flags were ordered flown at half-mast around the country as part of the tribute.

The Barcelona to Duesseldorf flight crashed on March 24.
