A man wanted over the shooting death of the print shop director at a community college in North Carolina has been arrested in Florida.

Kenneth Morgan Stancil III was arrested when he was spotted sleeping on the sand in Daytona Beach, said Goldsboro Police Captain Dwayne Dean.

Mr Dean said the 20-year-old was arrested without incident when patrol officers found him sleeping on the beach, a violation of a local ordinance.

Stancil is accused of killing Ron Lane in a building at Wayne County Community College yesterday morning.

Mr Dean said officials will work to have Stancil returned to North Carolina to face charges.
