A second and conclusive test shows a Spanish nursing assistant infected with Ebola is completely clear of the virus, doctors said.

The blood test showed Teresa Romero’s immune system had eliminated the virus, said Jose Ramon Arribas, of the Carlos III hospital.

Ms Romero, 44, battled for her life after she tested positive on October 6 and was admitted to the Madrid hospital.

Doctors say she began to show signs of recovery last week. She first tested negative on Sunday.

Ms Romero received plasma from a recovered Ebola patient but health authorities have disclosed no more treatment details.

She was the first known person to contract the disease outside of West Africa in the latest outbreak.

A spokeswoman for Ms Romero said she is expected to remain at the hospital for about two more weeks.
