The leaders of France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine have arrived for crucial peace talks in the Belarusian capital.

The talks in Minsk, brokered by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, aim to negotiate a deal to end hostilities in eastern Ukraine, where more than 5,300 people have been killed in fighting between Ukrainian troops and Russian-backed separatists.

Prior to the talks, Mrs Merkel and Mr Hollande visited Kiev and Moscow last week to speak to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Details of a possible peace deal haven’t been released. Key sticking points at the talks include drawing a line of division, withdrawing Russian troops and equipment, securing the Ukraine-Russian border and giving the rebels more autonomy.
