Thirteen years after the 9/11 terrorist attack, the resurrected World Trade Centre is opening for business – an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation.

Publishing giant Conde Nast will start moving into One World Trade Centre today. The 104-storey, 3.9 billion US dollar (£2.4 billion) skyscraper dominates the Manhattan skyline and is America’s tallest building.

The building is the centrepiece of the 16-acre site where the decimated Twin Towers once stood and where more than 2,700 people died on September 11 2001. It has been constructed from steel-reinforced concrete.

The executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the building and the World Trade Centresite, said the building’s reopening is a major milestone.

“The New York City skyline is whole again,” says Patrick Foye.
